The XXIV HIDES 2012 National Conference will be held on 19-20 October 2012 at the Niemeyer Center of Avilés, simultaneously with the celebration of the XXV anniversary of HIDES, and for the 3rd year in a row, National Dental Hygienists Day. It will be the perfect meeting place for professionals in the field, as well as for dental office staff members, including dental assistants and receptionists. 

What speakers will be participating? 

The top professionals in the sector will be lecturing: Dr. Llorente, Dr. Sicilia, Dr. Machín and Dr. López-Arranz, among others. National and international speakers will be attending. 

Which companies will be participating or collaborating in the meeting? 

We have always counted on the most important companies in the sector, and here we would like to thank all of them. But this is a special occasion, since HIDES will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary: we invite you to participate and join us in what will be without a doubt one of the most important events ever for hygienists, assistants and staff. What are the main issues to be addressed at the meeting? 

Techniques and subjects as current and diverse as photodynamic therapy (presented by speakers travelling from Germany); digital impression taking; prevention of oral cancer: patient examination and self-examination; food and drug interaction; use of laser in periodontitis... And many others. All together, 25 speakers will participate in our meeting. 

How will the 2012 meeting differ from the previous year? 

We will examine the present and future of our profession in Spain and in Europe. HIDES Federation is tied to the EFDH as the only representative of hygienists in our country; together we will analyse the situation of our profession regarding ways to reach aptitude and educational standards at a European level. The 25th Anniversary of HIDES is being celebrated on the National Dental Hygienists Day. We would like to count on the participation of all hygienist schools and associations in our country. 

We would like it to encourage the entire profession to come together. Our intention is to always try to find a way of defending and strengthening our profession, and I personally feel that this would be much more productive by joining forces. 

What are the main objectives of this meeting? 

To bring together more than 400 hygienists for a common purpose: to position our profession where it belongs; for dental staff to exchange ideas, experiences and aspirations; to show our recognition and gratitude to our colleagues who over the past 25 years have made our profession what it is today; and to invite current representatives to continue to work with us.
