INTERPROX®: NEW GENERATION OF INTERPROXIMAL BRUSHES

News

23 Nov 2015

Interproximal brushes are the best tools for removing biofilm from interdental spaces(1). Their use along with normal brushing reduces plaque and gingival indices.

A toothbrush only cleans 60% of tooth surfaces; the remaining 40% corresponds to the interproximal area. Interproximal hygiene is necessary in order to remove biofilm that accumulates in this area. Its removal is essential to prevent the development of diseases that its accumulation can potentially cause. However, interproximal cleaning is not always performed as it ought to be, due to the difficulty involved in using such products properly.

To solve this problem, DENTAID is launching a new generation of Interprox® brushes, whose main improvement is its ease and comfort of use and its ability to access all interdental spaces

It is important to select the right size for each interproximal space. The brush must fit into the space snugly so that the filaments and not the wire are what come in contact with teeth. In contrast, if too small of a size is chosen and the brush fits too loosely within the space, it will not be able to properly sweep out biofilm or food debris, as there will be a lack of friction with the proximal sides of the teeth.

At times it may be necessary to use antiseptics in the interproximal area. Under these circumstances, it may be recommendable to use Interprox® gel containing CPC (daily use antiseptic), designed to be applied to Interprox® brushes for insertion into the interproximal spaces. The combined use of Interprox® brushes and Interprox® gel has been proven to improve gingival and periodontal indices(5)

For areas in which the use of interproximal brushes is not possible due to limited interproximal space, DENTAID offers the VITIS® dental floss and tape product range, as well as Waterpik® oral irrigators for persons who require extra cleaning power.

How much do you know about Interprox®

* There are three types of models, for cleaning the different parts of the mouth comfortably, and nine sizes, ranging from 0.6mm to 2.2mm PHD (Passage Hole Diameter), or the smallest space needed to insert the brush.

* The brush head shape can be cylindrical for brushing between incisors and canines (anterior area) or conical for cleaning between molars and premolars (posterior area).

* Interprox® brushes are not disposable. They should be used daily until filaments show signs of wear.

* 68% of persons who carry out interproximal cleaning do so as per dentist recommendation, and 40% of these cases, due to periodontal, orthodontic or implant-related problems(2)

* The wire in Interprox® brushes is coated with polyurethane for increased protection of teeth and gums.

* Interprox® holds filaments of two colours: white for detecting bleeding and black for detecting plaque. Bleeding is normally due to gingival inflammation, which tends to decrease with regular use of interproximal hygiene tools.

* The new Interprox® brushes do not have memory effect, meaning that if they are bent, they do not return to their original position automatically, and can therefore be used without pressing to retain the desired position.

REVOLUTIONARY TECHNOLOGY

• Interprox® brushes are manufactured in a fully automated manner, without any manual handling, to ensure absolute asepsis of the product.

• Their manufacturing process is carried out on-site at DENTAID using an innovative production technology.

INTERPROX® IN NUMBERS

• DENTAID has been in the interproximal cleaning market with the Interprox® product line for over the past 25 years.

• Interprox® is the interproximal brush market leader, holding 73% of the market share(3)

• Interprox® is represented in over 60 countries(4)

• Over 10,500,000 Interprox® brushes are sold in Spain.
